Export compliance assistant

This assistant returns the rules we have recorded, verified and dated for a given export scenario. It authorizes nothing, issues nothing, and stands in for no authority. Every rule shown carries its source, its verification date and the date of its next review.

10 rules on file10 documents described
Which appendix to chooseThe appendix applicable to a given bird is determined by the CITES management authority of the country of origin, based on its documented ancestry. Usual rule of thumb: as soon as an Appendix I ancestor appears within four generations, the file is handled under Appendix I, not Appendix II. If in doubt, select Appendix I, then have the appendix confirmed by the management authority before filing anything. This selection does not amount to an official classification.

Scenario examined: Peregrine falcon, Appendix II, from Germany to United Arab Emirates. 6 rules in the register apply to this case.

Order of requests

The order in which requests are filed determines whether they are admissible. The rules below are those the register records for this scenario, with their source and verification date.

BlockingReported pitfall

Trap: a hybrid with an Appendix I ancestor is not an Appendix II specimen

A hybrid with an ancestor listed under Appendix I is treated as an Appendix I specimen. The European Union traces parentage back four generations. Treating such a hybrid as Appendix II is the most frequent and most costly mistake in a file.

Order required: Check parentage back four generations before determining the applicable appendix.

Trap: mismatch between the ring, the transponder and the permit

The closed-ring number, the transponder number and the references shown on the permit must match exactly. Any discrepancy, even a single character, causes a block at inspection and may be treated as an inaccurate declaration.

WarningReported pitfall

A stopover outside the declared route can invalidate the health certificate

The actual route must match the one declared on the health documents and on the air waybill. A diversion or an undeclared stopover can invalidate the certificate and hold the bird up on arrival.

What this tool covers

The assistant returns the state of the rules as of the verification date shown on each one, and nothing else. It replaces neither the CITES management authority of the country of origin, nor that of the destination country, nor a legal opinion.

Rules change, and practices vary from one country to another, sometimes from one office to another. A rule verified six months ago may have changed since. When in doubt on a specific case, the official source always takes precedence over what this page shows.

What the public tool doesn't do

Consulting the rules, the documents and the validity periods stays free and open. The timestamped PDF file for a scenario, saving a scenario to resume later, linking it to a transaction file, and real alerts on validity counters, which require actual issue dates, require an approved account.

Rule registry

Every published rule, for any scenario, with its verification date and the date of its next review. A rule whose review date has passed stays displayed as is: we'd rather show an honest date than erase it.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Export Check do?

It shows the rules recorded, verified and dated for a given export scenario (species, CITES appendix, country of origin and destination): the order to request documents in, the documents to gather, and validity periods, each with its source.

Does the assistant issue or authorize an export?

No. It authorizes nothing and issues nothing; it replaces neither the CITES management authority of the origin or destination country, nor legal advice.

What happens if no rule is recorded yet for my scenario?

Rather than show compliance it can't source, the tool shows nothing: it's better to contact the CITES management authority of the country of origin directly than to rely on a missing rule.

Is a rule verified several months ago still reliable?

Every rule shows its verification date and next review date; practices change from one country to another, and the official source always outranks what this page shows.

Which features require a verified account?

Browsing the rules stays free. The timestamped PDF file, saving a scenario, linking it to a transaction file, and real alerts on validity counters require a verified account.
