Parentage DNA test
A parentage test has been carried out in a laboratory and its result is compatible with the declared parents. What this test establishes, and what it doesn't, is set out just below.
A parentage test proves the bird's genetic compatibility with the declared parents. It does not prove its place of birth. It therefore does not establish a captive origin: a bird taken from the wild doesn't become traceable just because a genetic profile exists for it.
Its real value lies elsewhere, and it's considerable: it makes lying about parentage detectable. A bird presented as the offspring of a breeding pair it doesn't genetically match shows up in the test. That's the most documented type of fraud on this market, and it's exactly what this test catches.
