The Saudi Press Agency reports that a young peregrine falcon, known locally as a farkh shaheen, sold for SAR 375,000 on the eighth night of the 2026 National Center for Falcons Auction. The agency describes it as the highest price recorded so far at this year's event, which runs until 30 November alongside the trapping season.

The sale

The falcon was captured by a group of seven trappers in the Umm Khansar area of Arar. Bidding opened at SAR 110,000 and closed at SAR 375,000, well above the SAR 221,000 recorded for a young peregrine on the fifth night.

Support for trappers

The center continues to receive locally trapped falcons and provides accommodation and transport for trappers travelling to the auction venue. The sessions are broadcast on television and social media platforms.

For the trade

Buyers and breeders now have a new upper reference for locally trapped juvenile peregrines this season. With several weeks of sessions still to come, the published opening and closing prices of each night give a running view of how the market is moving.

Frequently asked questions: Market

Is the international falcon market a free market?

No. Trade in falcons listed under CITES requires permits before any transaction, issued by the management authorities of the countries concerned.

Are auction record prices representative of the market?

No. Record prices are one-off events. They should not be read as the current price of a bird of the same species.
