Gulf News reports that a young saker falcon from Mongolia sold for SAR 1.4 million, described as a record, during the Saudi International Falcons and Hunting Exhibition 2026. Bidding opened at SAR 100,000.

Where and when

The sale took place on the fifth evening of the Mongolian falcon auction, held at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Centre in Malham, north of Riyadh. The Saudi Falcons Club organised the exhibition, which closed on the Saturday of that week.

How to read the figure

This is one reported lot, not a market price. The report does not give the bird's sex, age in months or colour, so it cannot serve as a benchmark for another bird. It does show that the top of the market for wild-origin saker falcons continues to attract strong bidding in the Saudi capture season.

Buyers and institutions comparing prices can place this lot next to the published IFBA results, which come from a different sale format and a different species mix. Each new sale confirmed by an official source is added to the Saqr Index with its source and date.

Frequently asked questions: Market

Is the international falcon market a free market?

No. Trade in falcons listed under CITES requires permits before any transaction, issued by the management authorities of the countries concerned.

Are auction record prices representative of the market?

No. Record prices are one-off events. They should not be read as the current price of a bird of the same species.
