IFBA auction prices: what the published lots say (2024-2026)

Eleven sales at the International Falcon Breeders Auction have been reported by the Saudi Press Agency since 2024. They run from 32,000 to 1,300,000 riyals, and they say more about the top of the market than about its middle.

Key facts
  • 01Eleven IFBA sales reported by the Saudi Press Agency are recorded in the Saqr Index.
  • 02Prices range from 32,000 to 1,300,000 SAR, with a middle value of 77,000 SAR.
  • 03They are notable sales only, not a market price.

The International Falcon Breeders Auction (IFBA), organised in Riyadh by the Saudi Falcons Club, is one of the few falcon sales whose results are reported publicly. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reports some of the sales from its evenings. Eleven of them are recorded and validated in the Saqr Index.

What the eleven lots show

  • 2024 edition, seven lots. Three birds from a British breeding operation sold for 48,000, 51,000 and 65,000 SAR, without the species being named. A peregrine from Britain went for 32,000 SAR, a pure American peregrine for 77,000 SAR, and two white American peregrines for 86,000 SAR ("Super White") and 400,000 SAR ("Ultra White").
  • 2025 edition, two lots. 75,000 and 105,000 SAR, species and origin not given by the dispatch.
  • 2026 edition, two lots. Two Canadian gyrfalcons, one at 150,000 SAR and one, a mottled "Super White", at 1,300,000 SAR.

Across the eleven, the middle value is 77,000 SAR. The highest price is forty times the lowest.

What drives the top prices

On the published lots, the largest gaps come from colour, not from species alone. In 2024, a white American peregrine sold for more than twelve times the price of a British peregrine sold the evening before. In 2026, the gap between the two Canadian gyrfalcons of the same evening was almost ninefold.

What these figures are not

  • Not a market price. The agency reports notable sales, not the full catalogue of an evening. Unreported lots, often the most ordinary ones, are missing, which pulls the visible picture upwards.
  • Not complete descriptions. Five of the eleven lots have no species named. None gives the sex or the age of the bird.
  • Not a valuation. A price paid for one bird says nothing reliable about the value of another, even of the same species and colour.

Read them as an order of magnitude for the top of the auction, and as a benchmark against which to question an asking price, not to set one.

Where to follow them

Each new sale reported by an official source is added to the Saqr Index with its source and date, and appears on the IFBA event page.

Frequently asked questions: Market

Is the international falcon market a free market?

No. Trade in falcons listed under CITES requires permits before any transaction, issued by the management authorities of the countries concerned.

Are auction record prices representative of the market?

No. Record prices are one-off events. They should not be read as the current price of a bird of the same species.
