The Saudi Press Agency reports that a young peregrine falcon was sold for SAR 221,000 on the fifth night of the 2026 National Center for Falcons auction, held on the evening of 19 October. The auction runs until 30 November.

The sale

Bidding opened at SAR 60,000 and closed at SAR 221,000, more than three and a half times the opening bid. The agency gives no further detail on the bird or the buyer.

Broadcast

The proceedings are shown on television channels and on social media platforms, so falconers and other enthusiasts can follow each evening without attending in person.

Context

Earlier sessions of the same auction are covered in our report on the fourth session, where two falcons sold for a combined SAR 374,000. A single result is a reference point for wild-caught juvenile peregrines, not a market price, and each evening stands on its own.

Frequently asked questions: Market

Is the international falcon market a free market?

No. Trade in falcons listed under CITES requires permits before any transaction, issued by the management authorities of the countries concerned.

Are auction record prices representative of the market?

No. Record prices are one-off events. They should not be read as the current price of a bird of the same species.
