The Saudi Press Agency reports that the northern regions of Saudi Arabia have welcomed the annual falcon-trapping season, with trappers monitoring migration corridors across open terrain. The agency presents the practice as part of the Kingdom's falconry heritage.
Where activity is concentrated
Activity centres on the Al-Hammad plains east of Arar and on Al-Uwayqilah in the Northern Borders Region, where seasonal rains and changing weather create favourable conditions for following birds of prey along their flyways. Trappers interviewed by the agency said field preparations began on 1 October and that captures have already been recorded this season.
Regulation and logistics
According to SPA, trappers follow environmental regulations designed to protect wildlife. The National Center for Falcons deploys field teams in the Northern Borders and other regions to receive trappers, arrange accommodation and transport captured falcons to its live, broadcast auctions, which run from 1 October to 30 November.
For the trade
The report links the field season directly to the auction calendar. Buyers, breeders and transporters can expect a steady supply of locally trapped juvenile peregrines for sale through to the end of November.
